It was a picture-perfect day in the San Juans yesterday, with lots of sun and glassy-smooth waters. We went out quite a ways yesterday, up towards the Canadian Gulf Island, in search of Orcas. One group of resident Orcas, J-pod, has been fairly easy to find recently, but we were also able to see part… Continue reading San Juan Cruises / Whales & Wildlife Report – 6/26

Wow, it was a great day yesterday! We started off the day by finding J-pod during our San Juan Adventure cruise, out near the Canadian Gulf Islands. The weather was beautiful, with plenty of sun and temperatures up near 70. In the evening we were back out with two of our boats, one on a… Continue reading San Juan Cruises / Whales & Wildlife Report – 6/25 (Whales Everywhere!)
San Juan Cruises / Whales & Wildlife Report – 6/23 & 6/24
Lots of Orcas out in the islands the last two days – J-pod were spotted just west of San Juan Island yesterday, then today they were in the center of the islands, just north of Sinclair. They were very active this morning, leading our captain to describe the scene as “black & white popcorn”. We… Continue reading San Juan Cruises / Whales & Wildlife Report – 6/23 & 6/24
San Juan Cruises / Whales & Wildlife Report – 6/20
Lots of whales again today, including our first look at K-pod (one of the three resident pods of Orca whales), just off the west side of San Juan Island. We also saw a Minke whale on a day where the waters were flat calm and the sun was bright overhead. Sounds like the weather is… Continue reading San Juan Cruises / Whales & Wildlife Report – 6/20

San Juan Cruises / Whales & Wildlife Report – 6/15 & 6/16
We were able to see a transient group of Orca Whales in nearly the same location two days in a row, up near Echo Bay / Sucia Island. Lots of other wildlife were seen on the cruises, and the weather has been great, especially in the afternoons after the morning clouds have burned off.
San Juan Cruises / Whales & Wildlife Report – 6/12/2011
Another great day out in the islands on Sunday – sun was out and we saw a group of Orca whales just south of Lopez Island.
San Juan Cruises / Whales & Wildlife Report – 6/11/2011
Another great cruise today, with resident Orca whales (J-pod) viewed by our passengers SW of San Juan Island. It’s been a nice day, with clouds and fog giving way to blue skies on our return trip through the islands back to Bellingham.
San Juan Cruises / Whales & Wildlife Report – 6/10/2011
The whales were back on Friday! They were too far out of our range to reach the past few days, but on Friday our passengers witnessed an active J-pod of Orca whales jumping and spy-hopping just to the northwest of San Juan Island. We were able to spend a good amount of time with them,… Continue reading San Juan Cruises / Whales & Wildlife Report – 6/10/2011
San Juan Islands / Whale Watching Report – 6/04/2011
Lots of Minke whales in the islands today, with two sightings this morning – a few seen just south of Lopez Island, and another group at Salmon Bank, near San Juan Island. It’s been a beautiful day out in the islands, and is supposed to be equally nice over the next couple of days! Nice… Continue reading San Juan Islands / Whale Watching Report – 6/04/2011
